CAMSHAFT SPROCKET AND VCT BOLTS

Camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts are critical bolts designed for tightening camshaft gears or variable camshaft timing sprockets inside a vehicle’s engine. Their main function is to guarantee a precise axial load. The basic task of these bolts is to keep the camshaft gears or variable camshaft timing sprockets with the exact timing as that of the crankshaft.

When the crankshaft turns and makes the piston go up, the camshaft should necessarily have closed the valves to go into compression. If one of these movements loses timing, even of the tiniest bit, compared to the other, the engine is heavily damaged.

This synchronisation is one of the aspects that allow the engine to run properly. Breakage of a timing component in fact causes complete destruction of the engine.

The work of the camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts ensures that the crankshaft and the camshafts move synchronously, guaranteeing correct engine operation.

#Brugola OEB

The Brugola OEB cylinder head bolts are the result of many years of experience and utmost attention paid to the unique and specific needs of every customer. Every fastener that we produce comes up to the Total Quality and Zero Defects principles.

Brugola OEB makes tailor-made camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts able to never become unscrewed or come loose.

The main characteristics of the camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts

The camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts usually have a strength class of 10.9 and 12.9, even with very narrow Rm ranges. The heads are not flanged, but have a washer.
Camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts must never, in any way, become unscrewed or come loose. The result would be losing the timing synchronisation between the crankshaft and camshafts, with the engine breaking as a result. This is why a micro-encapsulated adhesive is applied. This product is commonly known as threadlocker.

The micro-encapsulated adhesive serves to ensure that the breakaway torque is extremely high, in this way guaranteeing that the bolt cannot accidentally become loose. It consists of two different components kept separate by the micro-capsules of the adhesive: a balls component and a liquid component. The adhesive is applied by gluing both components onto the bolt during production. However, only when the bolt will be screwed down will the small balls break and the two components will join together, creating a chemical reaction that will guarantee proper gluing of the bolt.

The camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts are tightened in the plastic range like, for example, the flywheel bolts, con rod bolts and crankshaft bolts. Since they are not very long bolts, work in the plastic field becomes more complex for them and therefore demands high precision in screwing down. Tightening in the elastic field requires the bolt to be drawn beyond its elastic limit. This causes a permanent and irreversible deformation of the bolt that, after tightening, is slightly longer than the initial measurement.

Brugola OEB has always combined its innovative spirit with enormous care taken in making every single bolt for car engines, pursuing the Total Quality and Zero Defects goals.
We put all of the experience and technology that distinguish us as a top level partner for our customers also into the design and production of our camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts.

Why choose
Brugola camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts

Our consultancy accompanies the customer starting from the very first steps, or that is to say, from the specifications. Starting from the initial instructions, such as required tightening load and dimensions, we are able to design camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts that fully meet the requirements and are high performing. We are therefore at the side of our customers in every single phases, from the project request up to delivery, with the goal of offering a product perfectly suitable for every specific case.

Brugola’s know-how also includes the customised production of camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts that are absolutely able to never become loose or unscrewed owing to application of micro-encapsulated adhesive.

We also study the most highly recommended material and coating for each bolt, minimising every risk of embrittlement caused by hydrogen during production for each strength class.

Lastly, we test 100% of our production, including the camshaft sprocket and VCT bolts. Thanks to a software program developed in-house, we can carry out customised simulations on prototypes to provide our customers reliable data on the behaviour that the bolts will have once they are tightened. All of the preliminary analyses are made during the design stage, even before the bolt goes into production, so as to make the products only after they have passed all of the testing phases.
